Challenges

Mining companies face a number challenges in their operations including:

Remediation of tailings ponds.

Access and haul road maintenance.

Dust control.

Increasing yields from refractory ore bodies without large capital expenditures.

Responsible management of cyanide and other chemicals.

Solidification of large volumes of sludges and slurries.

Creating beneficial re-use for sterile waste material.

Mining 1

Wet Spoils

Large volumes of wet spoil generated can often be difficult and expensive to dispose of.

Wet spoil disposal often requires specialized vacuum trucks to transport the liquid waste to a transfer station.

Sawdust, lime and cement can be used to solidify wet spoils to solids, however this method can increase disposal volumes by up to 300%, meaning that dump trucks have more to transport an create an increased waste load at the final disposal site.

Energy Utilities 4

METAFLO SOLUTION

Non-toxic, inert solidification reagent rapidly absorbs water, oil and grease to solidify the slurry on-site < 1 hour.

Once solidified, the waste can pass the Paint Filter Test (PFT).

Solidified slurry is transported directly to the final disposal site, reducing transportation and disposal costs while improving safety and regulatory compliance.

Challenges

Haul Road Stabilization

Haul roads may suffer from structural damage due the daily passage of heavy vehicles, consequently requiring frequent maintenance.

Airborne Dust

Excessive airborne dust particulate matter caused by mining processes has increasingly become an environmental and health concern.

Dust harms the environment, compromises human health, negatively affects communities and reduces overall business productivity.

Traditional methods for dust suppression usually require large amounts of water, which is costly both logistically and environmentally.

MetaFLO Solution

SoilTech acts as a chemical stabilizer/binder in the soil, yielding increased mass density, better compaction, improved mechanical properties, enhanced layer stabilization and improved impermeability.

Easy to apply by adding a minimal dosage to your existing water trucks. Requiring far less water than traditional methods.

Environmentally safe and free of chemical contaminants.

Biopolymer Hero 2

Challenges

Contaminated effluents from mining operations often contain high concentrations of metals and hydrocarbons, posing compliance and environmental challenges.

Contaminated wastewater, may not meet regulatory standards for discharge or reuse.

Fracking Remediation

METAFLO SOLUTION

Bio-friendly solution from algae with the potential to treat hydrocarbons and metals simultaneously in contaminated water.

As a super oxidant, Remtech acts quickly in the reaction and allows the treated water to be reused. In addition, it is free of chemical contaminants.

Used as alkalizer agent, it can be applied to the existing process and dosed directly into the water as it has high solubility.

Challenges

Industries can reuse inert waste to produce bricks, blocks or pavers—but they often lack strength, have low impermeability, are non-uniform and brittle.

Lack of environmentally friendly binders for cementitious applications that provide reliable binding and resiliency with superior texture.

Mining 4

METAFLO SOLUTION

CemenTech is a green cementitious additive that can be used as an alternative for repurposing sterile waste. It is ideal for use as a binder to create construction materials (bricks and pavers) from sterile waste material such as Phyllite, Dolomite, Magnesite, Bauxite, Quartz, Brucite, Hematite, Magnetite and Limestone.

The algae-derived biopolymer adds elasticity and improves texture and surface quality - resulting in a smoother, less porous, and more impermeable surface.

Increasing yields extraction from refractory ore

The process of leaching gold with cyanide is known to cause major environmental and human health issues. Gold cyanidation, as this process is called, is used to extract gold from raw ore taken from the ground. Cyanide dissolves the gold within the ore, extracting it in liquid form.

The gold is treated to remove the cyanide it was exposed to, but efficient extraction from refractory ores is more difficult.

METAFLO SOLUTION

ExtracTech is an eco-friendly biopolymer additive for the gold extraction process. It acts as an additive to the concentration process and can be added directly to cyanidation tanks or leaching piles.

ExtracTech, as a super-oxidant, performs chemical reactions with high ORP metals, leaving the metal of interest more exposed to react more easily with cyanide in the leaching process.

The biopolymer increases the reaction kinetics, promoting a more efficient metal recovery process from refractory ore.

Without needing additional equipment, it enables a cleaner process producing tailings with lower toxicity levels and it reduces the cyanide consumption.
