MF LiquidTech™ - Engineered Liquid Solutions for EPB-TBM Muck Solidification Operations

MetaFLO Technologies proudly introduces the MF LiquidTech™ family, a next-generation line of engineered liquid reagents developed specifically for EPB-TBM operations requiring liquid-applied spoils solidification, improved free-water control, and operational flexibility under variable tunneling conditions.

LIQUID-APPLIED SPOILS SOLIDIFICATION FOR MODERN EPB-TBM OPERATIONS

The MF LiquidTech™ family was developed for projects requiring the operational flexibility of liquid-applied spoils solidification systems. The platform is designed to support improved reagent distribution, rapid homogenization, free-water reduction, and spoils handling improvement under variable EPB tunneling conditions.

The MF LiquidTech™ platform provides an alternative to dry powder application systems for operations preferring liquid reagent integration into existing TBM injection or spoils management processes.

How to Apply MF LiquidTech

Two Application Methods for EPB-TBM Tunnel Muck Solidification

MF LiquidTech can be delivered using two distinct application methods depending on the TBM specification, the project's existing infrastructure, and operational requirements. Both methods use the same chemistry and differ only in how and where the reagent is delivered to the muck.

Application 1: TBM-Integrated Foam / Polymer Line Delivery

Uses the TBM's existing foam or polymer injection circuit to deliver MF LiquidTech through spray nozzles mounted at the screw conveyor discharge gate.

Project Fit Indicators

  • New TBMs specified with MF LiquidTech delivery systems
  • Projects where foam volumes are being reduced or eliminated in stable ground
  • Long belt drives where maximum passive solidification time is valuable
  • High muck-volume projects where dosing infrastructure simplicity matters
  • TBMs with existing foam circuit capacity available at the screw discharge zone
  • Projects where the TBM PLC will manage MF LiquidTech dosing rates automatically

How It Works

1. Reagent Connection

MF LiquidTech is supplied in 1,000-litre IBCs and connected to the existing TBM foam/polymer distribution circuit.

2. Distribution Through Existing Circuit

The existing TBM pump delivers MF LiquidTech through the on-board distribution lines to the screw conveyor discharge area.

3. Spray Nozzle Application at Screw Discharge

Spray nozzles apply MF LiquidTech directly onto the muck stream as it exits the screw conveyor.

4. Passive Mixing on Belt

The belt's natural motion begins working MF LiquidTech into the muck mass. Directional changes at conveyor transfer points provide additional mixing energy.

5. Solidification En Route

MF LiquidTech begins absorbing free water within seconds of contact. By the time the muck reaches the surface or a belt discharge point, the solidification process is well advanced.

Application 2: Standalone Vertical Injector Dosing System

A fully independent dosing system that requires no modification to the TBM and can be deployed on new or existing EPB projects.

Project Fit Indicators

  • Retrofit to any TBM already in operation
  • Projects where TBM foam is still in active use and circuit sharing is not practical
  • Projects requiring precise, independently verified dosing records for regulatory reporting
  • Multi-conveyor systems with more than one treatment point needed
  • Surface-mounted treatment where underground space is limited
  • Projects where dosing rate control needs to be independent of TBM operations

How It Works

1. Reagent Storage & Connection

MF LiquidTech is supplied in 1,000-litre IBCs connected directly to the vertical injector.

2. Precise Piston Dosing

The vertical injector delivers a precise, fixed volume of MF LiquidTech per stroke. Dose rate is adjusted through the control system.

3. Inline Flow Verification

An inline flow meter confirms delivery rate in real time.

4. Nozzle Injection onto Belt

MF LiquidTech is delivered through an injection nozzle positioned above the conveyor belt at the selected treatment point.

5. Passive Mixing on Belt

The belt's motion and directional changes at transfer points work MF LiquidTech into the muck mass. Solidification begins within seconds of contact.

6. Solidified Spoils at Surface

The treated muck arrives at the surface collection point as a stable, non-flowing solid ready for loading and disposal.

Not Sure Which Application Is Right for Your Project?

Both applications deliver the same MF LiquidTech chemistry and solidification outcome. The selection depends on project logistics, TBM specification, and operational priorities.

MetaFLO's technical team works directly with contractors and TBM operators to determine the most suitable configuration for each project.

Engineering & Operational Considerations

Performance ranges presented throughout this page are intended to support simplified product selection for typical EPB-TBM tunneling conditions.

Moisture content, spoils behavior, clay content, and operational requirements may influence final product performance and dosage rates.

MF LiquidTech™ products are intended for spoils solidification and free-water reduction in EPB-TBM operations. Final spoils handling, transportation, and disposal requirements remain dependent on project conditions and local regulations.

The MetaFLO technical team can assist in determining which MF LiquidTech™ platform may be more suitable for specific EPB-TBM muck conditions and operational objectives.
