Horizontal Directional Drilling

Disposal of liquid drilling slurry can be costly and negatively impact the environment if not managed properly. Traditional methods involve using vacuum truck to first remove the slurry to a transfer station, then bulking agents, such as sawdust, are added, and finally the bulked finished product (usually 50-200% more material compared to the initial amount of liquid waste) is transported to the final disposal site using dump trucks. MetaFLO’s technology can solidify the liquid waste on-site, which then allows the solidified waste to be transferred in dump trucks directly to the final disposal site. There are significant economic savings and environmental benefits of utilizing MetaFLO’s solidification technology.

On site Treatment vs Vacuum Trucks

There are many benefits to using the MetaFLO patented process to treat drill mud.

As an example: one spread , 975m3, of a large gas pipeline directional drill project of a total 60,000 m3 resulted in the efficiencies below.

Without the MetaFLO patented process

  • Transportation for disposal = 130 dump trucks
  • Shipped to licensed transfer station
  • Then on to final disposal site
